Tobias Asser (1838-1913) was a well-known Dutch lawyer, especially known for international private law, and was chairman of the First Hague Conference on Private International Law (1892). He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1911 for his contribution to the establishment of the Permanent Court of Arbitration and for his contribution to the First Peace Conference. Tobias Asser was an advocate for the establishment of the Hague Academy of International Law, and donated half of his prize money, from the Nobel Prize, to the establishment of the Academy.
