Jawaharlal Nehru (1889-1964) was a key figure in the independence movement of India. After the independence of India, he became the first prime minister of the country. Nehru was praised for his policy of ‘positive neutrality’ of India and the promotion of global peace and security, amid growing tensions in the Cold War.
