Jean Monnet (1888-1979) was a French businessman, politician, economic advisor and diplomat. With his innovative and ground-breaking efforts he contributed to the foundation of the European Coal and Steel Community, the predecessor of the European Union. He is considered one of the most important pioneers of unity in Europe and is therefore also known as the ‘The Father of Europe’.
