Review Just Peace festival

For four days, the Peace Palace stood central during the annual Just Peace Festival. At the International Open Day only there were over more than 750 participants. A total of approximately 3500 participated in one or more program components.

This meant that it was cozy in the Peace Palace from Thursday to Sunday. There were various activities where visitors were actively working on the theme of peace.

It has become a successful event as much the as previous years. On the International Day of Peace there was a special musical performance of the new initiative “The Hague Orchestra for Peace”. During HagueTalks it was about how dialogues can be started to prevent conflict and thereby promote peace. The magnificent film ‘Land of Mine’ was shown, a special tour of symbols in the Peace Palace and the International Open Day where a glimpse was given in the courts. The international organizations, the International Court of Justice and the Permanent Court of Arbitration had opened their doors to interested parties. The varied offer at the festival showed that in many ways you can approach the subject of peace.

The festival inspired many visitors to take a next step in order to work for peace. The Hague has been increased to be the international city of peace and justice. And in the words of top diplomate and winner of the Carnegie Wateler Peace Prize 2016 Sigrid Kaag: “Peace is possible but achieving lasting peace is never easy. It takes time. It can only be achieved by having patience and with continuous effort. With falling and rising, and with setbacks “
