In the Peace Palace there are a total of four enamel cloisonné vases from China. The objects are decorated with floral motifs and an imperial dragon with five toes. The impressive art objects are remarkably large (about two metres high) and are similar to vases found in the collection of the Museum of the Forbidden City in Beijing. In 1909, the Imperial Court commissioned the Institution Industrielle du Pékin to produce these unique works of art for a prominent room in the Peace Palace. Already in 1910, the vases were delivered to the Peace Palace, in wooden crates and by train. In 1913, they were given a permanent place in the Japanese hall.

In 2020, the four Chinese vases were restored with the help of external partners and financial support from the Stichting Dioraphte, Gravin van Bylandt Stichting and Hendrik Muller Fonds.
