As the initiator of the First Hague Peace Conference, Russia donated a very large jasper vase with lid. It features gilt bronze decorative elements including a double-headed eagle, laurel branches and festoons. The vase stands on a pedestal on which the bronze letters “Don de S.M. L’Empereur de R.V, SSLE Nicolas II” can be found. For safety reasons, an additional foundation was placed under the floor on which the 3,200-kilo vase was to stand when the Peace Palace was built.
