Past: International Day of Non-Violence

Looking back: To celebrate Matatma Gandhi’s 150th birthday, the ”Stichting Standbeeld Mahatma Gandhi” organized the ‘International Day of Non-Violence’ on 2 October in collaboration with the Municipality of The Hague, the Embassy of India and the Carnegie Foundation.

To celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birthday, the day was all about non-violence. Gandhi was the pioneer of non-violent philosophy and strategy. He was an inspiration for non-violent demonstrations and movements.

The Ambassador of India to the Netherlands, Indologist Anette van der Hoek and other speakers expressed their ideas about the importance of nonviolence in resolving human conflicts in the world. In addition, two short films where shown about the appreciation for Gandhi worldwide.

The ‘International Day of Non-Violence’ took place in the Peace Palace.
